MEET MARGARET ELIZABETH
I grew up on the great coast of Savannah, Georgia. I have always loved the scenic marsh views, the beach, the bright sunsets over the rivers that flow from the Atlantic, and all marine life that the coast accompanies. The feeling of being on the water and surrounded by the coast effortlessly carried over into my art. Using acrylics on canvas, much of my art embodies the marine life and the coastal beauties that have inspired me by living on the ocean.
My father always collected art. Our walls mimicked those of a museum with several paintings on each wall. He always had a story about each piece; why he bought it, what caught his eye, who or what it reminded him of, or just what it meant to him. To me, the walls in our house told a story. They represented family, experiences, and aspirations. They told about who we were as a family.
Today, the walls of my own home look very similar to those of my family home but with my own stories. I believe the art on your walls embodies who you are, where you’ve been, and where you want to go.
A self-taught artist, I began as many others. Painting was a simple hobby. It served as a way to unwind and refocus. As others began seeing some of my work, they would often ask me to paint something for their home or family.
Painting makes me happy and seeing the excitement of others, eager to get my pieces on their walls makes me even happier. While it is sometimes hard for me to separate from a piece of art, I love nothing more than the reaction of those who have chosen a piece of my artwork to represent who they are, where they’ve been, or where they want to go.
These feelings, along with the encouragement of my family and friends, have inspired me to start sharing my art. I want everyone’s walls to be able to share their story and nothing makes me happier than knowing a piece of my art helped them do so.
